In the last issue of KXpress, we highlighted how our new subsidiary nexineer is working digitally and how every KAMAX employee can help shape our digital future with their own ideas. Now we can provide initial insights, with two initiatives already well advanced.
One of these initiatives operates at the heart of KAMAX - our production. With the “smart.shopfloor” program, we access production data from various IT systems and can present it in a visually well-structured user interface. The idea for this came about with the first digitization activities by Mr. Steins in 2018 under the direction of Group Manager Technology Product Application Dominik Eller. Pablo Duart is currently overseeing the project.
The so-called “dashboard” of the program supports the daily work of our shift and group leaders. It is possible to have a live view of our production and to analyze past shifts. In addition, the calculation of key figures is automated in a reporting function. The smart.shopfloor dashboard has been in test phase in Homberg since the beginning of 2021. The global rollout will start this summer so that every KAMAX plant can gradually work with the digital solution.
Shortened quotation process
The second advanced digitization initiative supports KAMAX’s offer process. The “Digital Offer Process” aims to significantly reduce and partially automate the creation time for offers. Until now, it took several weeks from a customer inquiry to a quotation.
A central element for accelerating the quotation process is an online bolt configurator. This configurator makes it possible to design standard bolts with just a few clicks, which can then be used for automatic weight calculation, workflow recommendation and similar parts search. A digital automatism with conception rules and cost rates works in the background.
The bolt configurator has been in test operation since April 2021 and will be available to the entire European sales force in the course of 2021.
Further initiatives in the starting blocks
nexineer digital is actively working on further digitization initiatives. First and foremost are the “easy.tool-life” and “Task Management” initiatives. We already reported on these initiatives on the intranet in April and May 2021, and both initiatives are to be tested in practice this year.
“Augmented reality” (AR) is another topic that will soon give rise to new initiatives for the KAMAX Group. nexineer digital promotes the global use of AR glasses, which make it possible to overlay the reality being viewed with additional information or virtual objects. Users of such glasses can be actively supported by AR while working. Possible application: technical support on a defective machine by colleagues several kilometers away. So keep an eye out for AR glasses, you will soon encounter them more often.
