Having engineering expertise is essential for a company like KAMAX. But it is just as important to transfer this know-how. Pepe Puchau has been managing this process in Museros for years and reports on his work.
31 years ago I started my career at KAMAX Museros, without any knowledge of how a bolt was manufactured. I joined the Tool Department, where I stayed for seven years. Despite the obstacles I encountered with the technical management of that time, they did not diminish my desire to innovate, learn and continue to develop. It remains the basis of my demand for hard training.
Every day there was an operator who taught me something new, and I always felt the need to find a technical and scientific explanation. I am very grateful to the machine operators, for what I learned with them. Eventually, my work changed into a passion for cold heading. During these seven years I was able to develop the manufacturing system that is still in operation today. The standardization of bolts, processes and tooling design, and understanding the breakage of hard metal, was the most important challenge.
Sharing is caring
In 1997, I started with the training of operators – giving them insights into developments, causes for broken dies and the defects we generated in the production. Sharing knowledge is an amazing experience and above all, I cherish seeing how people grow professionally. The most important thing in training is to spread the motivation to do new and better things.
In 2014, the dual training of students was combined with the annual training of pressing, threading, die making and quality operators. We currently have 19 students at the training centre, who are educated in the operation of presses and threading machines. It is very gratifying and surprising for me to see how the students surpass themselves, and above all, to see the interest and motivation they show every day.
There is always more
31 years of experience have shown me that in order to train others, we should be able to answer all questions, and solve all technical problems. Nevertheless, I still have not managed to cope with all, because every day we face new challenges. But, isn’t this what makes the job more special and rewarding?
“I am neither clever nor
especially gifted.
I am only very, very curious.”
This whole project is possible thanks to the Technology team of Museros, because in addition to providing the training, we do all the engineering work that the plant needs. I would like to mention Fernando Manzanet, David Herreros, Diego Rodriguez, Kamilla Sakalosh and Miguel Solaz. We all have in common, our commitment to work and attitude, to start new challenges, collaborating with all those who need our collaboration.
We will remain always learning …
