Having fun on two wheels
How do you get to work every morning? By car, by public transport or by foot? Very few of us use a bike to get to work. And yet there are many advantages to riding your bike: It’s healthy, helps you get or stay fit, usually costs less than other modes of transportation and there are no carbon emissions. The plants in Turnov (Czech Republic) and Bardejov (Slovakia) have therefore organized competitions to get employees excited about cycling.
In Turnov, employees competed against each other in an internal challenge. The goal was to see who could cover the most kilometers in a month. Almost 50 colleagues took part and together managed around to cover more than 9,900 kilometers – the winner among the men, Petr Klus (warehouse clerk), managed an incredible 1,902 kilometers, and the winner among the women, Vlaďka Pitelová from internal transport, covered 392 kilometers. All participants received reward packages with KAMAX bottles, refreshments, etc. for their sporting efforts.
Employees in Bardejov, on the other hand, took part in the largest national corporate cycling campaign, “Bike To Work”. A total of four teams from both plants in Slovakia diligently collected kilometers and together cracked the 1,000-kilometer mark, primarily by riding to and from work. The “B12” team from Tools & Equipment finished in first place in the municipality of Bardejov. “We took part in the competition to motivate as many people as possible to switch from cars to other means of transport. We also did it to prove to the relevant authorities that there is a great interest in bicycle transport in Slovakia,” says Barbara Hadyova, Management Assistant in Bardejov.
The same goals are also being pursued in Turnov. In addition to the internal competition, the Human Resources team also organized a joint cycling trip to the famous Kost Castle. Both young students and long-time employees set off together. Colleague Martin Kužel even completed the tour on a historic bike. Such moments are the things that memories are made of and perhaps the wave of cycling enthusiasm will spread to the other locations in the future!
