My machine and me

What is your job at KAMAX?

My most important responsibility is to ensure that production continues to run: this means equipping the machine, carrying out minor repairs, and dealing with broken tools. After the plant closure in Alsfeld last year, I returned to Homberg and have been working with the MPL ever since. I would say that I’m still in the learning phase, because it can take a few years before you really know a press inside and out.

What is so special about your machine, the MPL 20?

The MPL is primarily used to produce parts with sizes around M20, mostly ball studs. This press is relatively old – the new Hyodong right next to it is much, much bigger, runs a bit faster, and produces similar parts. But I really do not want to stop using the MPL, even if it is a bit dirtier and I often have to get down on my knees and crawl inside it.

What is it that you like most about your work?

I really love the variety! An old machine like this one can surprise you at any time, and there is no way to conduct digital troubleshooting like there is with new presses. I also enjoy seeing my colleagues, particularly when I have a chance to help them out with their work. I’m not a one-man show – the entire production operation only functions if we work as a team.

What do you do when you’re not at KAMAX?

I just finished building my home – now there’s a lot of work to be done in the yard. As a father, it goes without saying that I spend a lot of time with my kids and with my wife. And soccer has always played a major role in my life – I’ve been playing since I was five years old, and my current team is Kirtorf. Be it at work or in my private life, I’m not a one-man show.
