Glasses on please

In cooperation with our partner nexineer, we have found a new way to simplify cross-plant exchange and optimize production planning using the HoloLens technology. Every operation has already encountered digital glasses (or something similar) and is also determining how to utilise this technology for their current needs. HoloLens can be a very useful image sharing and hand-freeing tool. Lukáš Marek reports about examples from Turnov.

HoloLens

Microsoft HoloLens is a mixed-reality glasses that allow the user to create interactive 3D projections in the direct (real) environment.

In connection with the PPA project (Product Plant Allocation), where parts and entire machines are being transferred around the KAMAX world, we started working on the idea of how to use our HoloLens glasses for these activities together with OPEX. The option means additional software that allows working with a 3D model of the machine, which can be projected directly in the production area. Should we overlay the current machine or place it in a free space between other machines? The affected person can thus test the access to the workplace and work area around the machine in advance without any need to physically move the object.

This tool could also be used when planning new areas, whereby we can virtually build the entire workplace. Of course, that is not all. The particular software, which we have had the opportunity to test, offers numerous other options. These include, for example, the creation of setting points called “checkpoints” on the machine or production line. This allows the operator to create several virtual points on the machine that, after clicking, can hide various notes, drawings, videos or modelled scenarios to resolve the situation.

All this could certainly be used in daily routine in the future. Despite the mentioned potential features, we know that there is more to come and, in time, we will certainly discover other options. If you are interested in these things, or if you are a HoloLens user and are interested in further developing these activities, contact your local ambassador for digitization. By acting together, we can gain an edge for the future.

The virtual model of the machine located in the dispatch area is one of the real machines that we used for demonstration. The software was presented and lent by a local company, which also cooperates on similar activities with the local Škoda Auto operation in Mladá Boleslav.
